Sunglow Offer

An example of how it works

The key to installing and finally owning a solar water heater is the Sunglow lease plan. Here's a example:

  1. First off, get a quote for a fully installed system from any of the suppliers in the Sunglow range.
  2. Next, let's assume that the quote is fixed at $5000 and the system you chose generates Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) worth $1,300 at the current price set by the federal government.
  3. Next, we deduct the $1,300 worth of RECs from the $5,000 quoted price to determine the Lease Amount of $3,700.
  4. And finally, if you want to go forward with the quote and the Lease Agreement, we complete a credit check and authorise your preferred supplier to invoice Sunglow the $3,700.
  5. As soon as your new solar water heater is installed, Sunglow or your installer will give you the forms so that you can claim the very generous government grants and rebates for going solar. These rebates and grants could range in value from $1000 to $2200 depending on where you live and the type of system you are replacing. Sunglow is always there to assist you in completing the forms if you need any help or direction.

It is that simple.

But of course, there will be a lot a variation on the quoted price based on brand, style, number and market value of RECs and site difficulties, but you should be able to find a system where the net amount owing is no more than a Maximum Lease Amount of $4,000. If you want to go with a more expensive system, or there are particular site difficulties, then you will have to fund any excess above $4,000 which is currently the Maximum Lease Amount under the Sunglow lease plan.

There are many benefits by going solar with Sunglow. Here's just a few:

Your financial savings

  • As long as there are no site difficulties and you choose from our standard range of Australia's most reliable Brands, then all you will pay for a fully supplied and installed solar hot water system is $35 to establish the lease.
  • Lease for 7 years, and if you want, make us an offer at the end of the lease to buy the complete system with a single payment, or return the complete system to Sunglow, or extend the lease by an extra 3 years. At the end of the 3 year extension, Sunglow has the option to send a plumber out to collect the 10 year old system, or we can just leave it with you and you have nothing more to pay. Or if you want, just call Sunglow at any time and we will let you know what your Lease Termination Payment would be if you want to return the complete system early.
  • We help you arrange the paperwork for all of the government-sponsored renewable energy rebates, grants and subsidies. If you qualify for any of these concessions, all you do is fill in your particular details, sign the forms and post them off to receive the cash. The relevant government departments will pay the cash directly to you shortly after installation. The great news is that you keep 100% of the cash, we don't offset any of it against the lease, its yours for whatever household purpose you think fit.
  • Because the sun heats most of your water, your heating costs should fall by about 75%.
  • An average family is financially ahead from day one, because the household's electricity or gas bills should be reduced by more than the cost of the lease. By going solar with Sunglow, you start saving money immediately, over the entire 7 year lease period plus the optional 3 year extension and long after if you buy the system at the end of the lease.
  • Remember, you are also getting a brand new tank that should last in excess of 10 years, yet your existing tank on average may have less than 3 to 5 years of life left in it . That means you won't have to think about replacing your tank for at least 10 years. That saves you wondering when the old tank is going to fail and it also saves you having to find the cash to buy a new one.
  • You don't have to worry about bad weather affecting your supply of hot water. All of our approved solar water heaters are backed by a gas or electric booster - so you will never run out of hot water.
  • And finally, if the solar collector panels fail while under warranty, we will pay your reasonable water heating costs until the panels are repaired or replaced.

Your solar water heater

  • Choose your preferred style of solar water heater from our list of top quality approved Suppliers.
  • Your system includes the solar collector panels and a brand new long-life tank with a gas or electric booster (so you won't run out of hot water) - all fully installed and with everything covered by attractive manufacturer/installer warranties.
  • As a sign of confidence in our approved Suppliers, Sunglow will pay to heat your water with energy supplied by the system's auxilliary booster if the panels are out of service for a warranty claim.
  • Your old water heater is removed and recycled without charge, or if you want, you can keep it and/or recycle it yourself.

Your home

  • You have added value to your home by making it more environmentally sustainable and reducing its running costs - a trend that will accelerate in years to come.
  • If you do sell your home whilst your solar hot water service is still under lease, you pay a Lease Interruption Payment as you will no longer be the Lessee. The Lease Interuption Payment is an early termination payment under the lease, and the methodology for calculating the payment is set out in the Lease Agreement. The calculation is clear with no added extras. Also, as a highly valued customer, Sunglow would like to offer you generous discounts if you re-sign for a new lease at your next home within 12 months.
  • Remember, real estate agents and home buyers understand the value of an energy efficient home. They are easier to sell and cheaper to run.
  • Above all, the money saved on home energy bills can be used to support a mortgage or other household expenses.

Your environment

  • You will significantly reduce your household's environmental footprint.
  • Installing solar hot water is like taking a small family sedan off the road.
  • By going solar, you know that you have made a difference.

Performance Warranty on panels

  • We are so confident in the quality of our approved Suppliers' solar panels, that if the panels fail while under the Manufacturer's Warranty, we will pay your reasonable water heating costs using your backup energy source until the panels are repaired or replaced.

Receipt in your name

  • To keep the paperwork simple for your records, Sunglow will make all necessary payments to your preferred supplier up to the full value of the Lease Amount. To ensure you are in full control to support any Warranty Claims or to complete the paperwork for any government grant or rebate, Sunglow will request that your supplier send you a Receipt with the full purchase price made out in both your name and our name. Sunglow will hold a duplicate copy of the Receipt solely in our name as our proof of payment for our financial records. Please be aware, that although the Receipt will include your name for ease of maintenance, potential Warranty Claims and completion of paperwork for government grants and rebates, the complete system remains the sole property of Sunglow whilst under lease.

How can I use less energy?

  • Hot water use is the biggest source of energy consumption in an Australian home. By switching to solar, you may be reducing your household's greenhouse gas emissions by around 30%, which is roughly equivalent to taking a small family car off the road.

Here are some other ways to cut your greenhouse gas emissions:

    • use compact fluorescent light bulbs
    • use recycled paper
    • keep your car tyres inflated
    • run a dishwasher only when it is full
    • change the filter on your air conditioner
    • take shorter showers
    • install low-flow shower heads
    • buy a fuel-efficient car
    • use public transport or car-pool
    • plant trees
    • replace old appliances
    • unplug unused electronic equipment
    • insulate your home
    • install double glazing in air conditioned or heated rooms
    • dry your clothes on a clothes line

Are you renting your home?

Unfortunately, Sunglow does not lease solar water heaters for rental properties, mainly because the term of the Sunglow Lease Agreement is longer than the term of most tenancy agreements.

Consequently, we provide the Sunglow Lease Agreement only to wholly owned or mortgaged residential properties.
